Master's programs in EngineeringINPL offers 9 engineering programs to students who have completed a highly selective two-year post-baccalauréat course majoring in Maths, physics and chemistry. Entrance to the Ecoles of INPL is subject to a nationwide competitive examination. The curricula offered by INPL are accredited every four year by the "Commission des Titres de l'Ingénieur", a French public body. And they lead to the following Graduate Engineering diplomas (equivalent to Master's degrees)
Double or multiple degrees Engineering Programs offered to Foreign studentsMaterials sciences and engineering :
Industrial systems engineering
Chemical Engineering
Production Engineering
Computer Sciences, Energy
Geosciences Geo-engineering and Geology
Academic CalendarThe university year begins early September and finishes at the end of June. The first semester runs from the beginning of September to the end of January and the second Semester runs from the beginning of February to the end of June. Each semester has a total of about 15 weeks. Public holidays in France include :
Organization of studiesThe usual duration of studies at INPL is three years for the engineering diploma. INPL, like every European university, functions on a credit system known as the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS credits represent the volume of work that the student must produce for each module. A total of 60 credits represent the volume of work for a year of studies (30 credits per semester). At INPL, 1 ECTS credit is equivalent to approximately 30 hours’ actual student’s work (15 hours of lectures + tutorials, laboratory work and 15 hours of homework). The first three semesters (90 ECTS credits) consist in a core curriculum; specialization begins in the fourth semester. The last semester (30 ECTS is devoted to an internship in industry or in a laboratory (under specific conditions such as the completion of a German “Diplomarbeit”). In most schools two other training periods (about 5 weeks each) must be completed in the summer by the student : one workshop placement, and one language placement (about 5 weeks) The weekly workload is generally 25 hours (lectures, tutorials, laboratory work). The courses usually start at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. except on Thursday afternoons which are devoted to sporting activities. Attendance to all courses is compulsory. Photocopies are handed out in most courses. These are usually very detailed and give a thorough outline of the course.
Tuition languageMost courses are given in French. Therefore a good command of the French language is essential. INPL provides intensive French courses for the students who are not proficient in French. For further information and prices, please consult the CAFOL web site or contact cafol@mines.inpl-nancy.fr
Examinations and assessmentThe knowledge acquired by the student is assessed in the following way
The work is marked out of 20 and each test may be weighed by a coefficient. Details of exams and (and coefficients) are published at the beginning of the year. Each lecturer is responsible for specifying the type of exam that he/she will set at the beginning of the course that he/she teaches. Validation of a year’s studies (enabling the student to move on to the next year or to obtain the diploma) is announced by the end of year jury. Pass level is usually 10 or more out of 20. Admission requirementsGraduate Engineering programs are open to foreign students who have successfully completed four years of scientific/technological university studies. Applications for admission are examined by a jury and the decision is made by the director of the school concerned. Students who wish to join INPL to obtain a diploma (Engineering degree, Master’s degree, Phd), are called “degree students”. Students who want to join INPL for a period of study or a placement in a laboratory are called “exchange students”. (ATTENTION METTRE LA BONNE APPLICATION FORM) Exchange students can be admitted to INPL if there is a formal exchange agreement or exchange program between INPL and the student’s home university Certain schools such as ENSAIA offer laboratory placement opportunities throughout the year on their web site:
