Housing & diningStudent residence hallsAccommodation for international students whether exchange or degree is available in the “Résidences Universitaires” (student residence halls) run by the CROUS. A university residence accommodation request form should be filled out and sent back to the CROUS before July 15. The CROUS runs 12 traditional style university residences in Nancy and the surrounding area (furnished 9 m2 rooms with hand-wash basin in the room, communal sanitation facilities, and kitchenettes on each floor). There are no phone connections in the rooms Rent is approximately 150 € per month. A deposit of 140 € is requested on arrival. This will be returned on your departure after deduction in case of damage. Room payment for the whole period of stay is required within the first week of arrival unless a resident of France cosigns the lease. European students will be exempt from paying in advance for the whole period of stay on condition that their parents or any other relative guarantees for them (see document in the letter confirming room reservation) The CROUS also has unfurnished studios in residences for students staying at least 12 months. Rent is around 250 € for this type of studio. Private Student ResidencesNancy has several private student residences, prices range from 500 € to 600 € per month.
Renting from a private landlord or estate agency Apartments can also be rented from owners or through agencies. It is relatively easy to find private accommodation if you apply early enough, as there are numerous flats to let. All students are eligible for a governmental accomodation financial help ranging from 50 to 150 € a month (ALS) to which they should apply once they have found a flat or a room to live in (http://www.54.caf.fr/) In France, a housing insurance (called "Assurance Multirisques") is compulsory (the cost is about 60 € for a flat and 30 € for a room in a student residence hall). This can be purchased from student insurance organisations (MGEL, Mutuelle des Etudiants, etc.) or from any private insurance company. Dining facilitiesThe CROUS (Centre universitaire des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) owns eight restaurants, six brasseries, one pizzeria, one chinese restaurant and a pancake house in Nancy. They are open from 11 h 45 to 13 h 30, and from 18 h 45 to 20 h. They are located close to student residence halls and to university buildings. Access cards must be bought in advance at the checkouts of the university restaurant (called “ RU ” or "Resto U") on presentation of the student’s card.
