Health care

All students must have a health insurance and a personal liability insurance.

All “degree students” must take out the French student health insurance plan (about 190 €)

Exchange students may have their own health insurance with a coverage of 30,000 € for the duration of their stay in France. For European Exchange Students the European Health Card is sufficient. For Students from Quebec the SE 401 Q – 106 form is sufficient. In the absence of a health insurance from their country of origin, European students and students from Quebec will have to take out the French student health insurance plan (about 190 €).

Visits to the doctor and medication have to be paid for there and then: 21 € for a general practitioner, and between 30 € and 50 € for a specialist.

To have their costs reimbursed, European students should forward a copy of their European health card, complete with the medication identification labels and doctor’s prescription, to the International Relations Office of the CPAM (National French health insurance), along with a bank or post office details slip (RIB or RIP).

Degree students who have subscribed to the French national Student health scheme (190 €) receive a “Carte Vitale” from the student health organization (MGEL, or LMDE) they have selected. The “Carte Vitale” should be shown whenever they go to the doctor or the hospital or to the chemist. This will allow automatic back payment on the student’s bank account of their medical expenses.

Only 70% on average of medical costs are covered by the French national health scheme. The remaining 30% can be covered by a separate insurance which you can buy from student insurance organisations (MGEL, Mutuelle des Etudiants LMDE, etc.).
You can subscribe when enrolling at INPL (cost: around 150 € per year).
